Drag Drive Simulator Gear Tuning

Short low gears for launch, longer high gears for top speed, then lights, rims, and suspension checks.

Gear Tuning Guide

Gear ratio tuning is the performance system that separates Drag Drive Simulator from a paint booth. ADV Gamers Team lets you set ratios per gear. Shorter gears multiply launch; longer gears raise the speed ceiling. A pretty limited bike with a random ladder loses to a cheap motorcycle that hits peak speed at the Sentul stripe. Use the tier list to choose a platform, then come here before you blame the dealer.

This page assumes you can already shift. If Q and E still stall you, open controls first. If you have not bought a starter bike, use getting started. Robux passes such as Suspension Pro are optional extras listed on gamepasses; they do not replace ratio work.

Short versus long

RatioLaunchTop speedUse
Short (low)Harder hit, engine climbs fastHits the cap soonerSentul launch, short strip
Long (high)Softer hitHigher ceilingPettarani stretch, long roads

Shorter means you spend less time in that gear and more RPM for the same road speed. Longer means the opposite. There is no universal slider that wins every map. Sentul Time Trial wants the bike to arrive at the stripe just as the last useful gear peaks. If you top out early, lengthen the high gears. If you are still pulling when the race ends, shorten them or shift later.

Build a ladder

Start with aggressive, shorter ratios in first and second so the clutch dump actually moves the bike. Step the remaining gears longer so you do not run out of road speed. That ladder is the default drag recipe: short low, longer high. Copying a friend’s screenshot blindly fails when your tire, rider, and strip length differ.

Change one gear at a time. If you move every ratio in one sitting, you will not know which change fixed the sixty-foot. Write down the previous numbers. DDS is still a beta (public text: BETA V1.1.8); menus can shift, but the physics idea does not.

Free roam is the first bench. Find a straight, launch at 6000-8000 RPM, and feel whether first gear lights the tire or bogs. Then teleport to Sentul and repeat the same dump. Only after Sentul looks stable should you take the bike to Pettarani Track in Makassar for top-end. That order is also how the drag racing page expects you to test.

Sentul versus Pettarani versus city roads

Sentul Track is short-strip truth. If the ladder is too long, you never reach the powerband. If it is too short, you bounce the limiter and watch a taller-geared bike pass. Pettarani is the opposite classroom: extra asphalt punishes a short stack that peaked a second ago. Surakarta’s Slamet Riyadi city expansion is not a drag strip; do not tune exclusively on boulevard traffic and expect Tournament wins.

City roads still matter for jobs. A Barista or RideGo bike can run a milder ladder so you are not constantly shifting at 40. Keep a drag ladder for Sentul and a street ladder if you roleplay all night. Vehicle slots are limited unless you buy expansions — decide which bike is the race tool.

DRL, indicators, rims, paint

V1.1.8 added DRL type, DRL color, and indicator flash rate. Those mods change how the bike reads at night and in photos. They do not shorten a Time Trial. Set them after the ladder works so you are not shopping lighting presets between failed launches.

Rims and paint passes are the other cosmetic layer. Paint passes (including advanced paint options in the store) let you finish a look. Rims change stance and style; treat performance claims as unproven unless you A/B the same strip. If a rim package is a Robux pass, read gamepasses before you click. RP spent on paint is RP not spent on a better platform from the tier list.

Headlights still toggle with L. DRL settings are not a replacement for that key. Flash rate is signaling; do not confuse it with shift timing.

Suspension Pro and kickstand

Suspension Pro costs 29 Robux and unlocks extra suspension adjustment. Use it to set ride height for the strip or for city rumble. It will not fix a first gear that is two steps too short. Make ratio changes first, then height, then look at the stand.

V1.1.8 improved the kickstand so it follows suspension height. If the stand floats or buries after a height change, that is the new behavior working. You do not tune kickstand with a gear slider. Park with P, inspect the stand, then go back to launches.

Three-pass test protocol

Pass 1 — Free roam straight: five dumps at 6000-8000 RPM. If the tire smokes, lower launch RPM or lengthen first a notch. If the bike bogs, shorten first or dump with more RPM (still under redline).

Pass 2 — Sentul Time Trial: three consecutive runs without changing anything else. Note whether you hit the limiter early or still accelerate at the stripe. Adjust only the highest gears you actually used.

Pass 3 — Pettarani top-end: one or two full pulls. If the bike stops climbing well before the end, lengthen the last gears. If it never gets into the last gear, you shortened too far for this strip.

Stop after pass 3. Do not keep twisting sliders until luck looks like science. Take a job or a Courier loop to clear your head, then run pass 2 again. Event crowds during the Independence quest can pollute a test — swap to a quieter 25-player server. If you cannot find a straight, the map guide lists original-city roads versus Sentul versus Pettarani. The Guides Hub is the index if you jumped here from a dealer.

When the three passes agree, lock the ladder and go spend RP on racing, not on another random cosmetic. If they disagree, the bike may simply be the wrong tool; that is a tier list question, not a reason to buy DRL colors. Bring the locked numbers into Tournament only after Time Trial repeats sit in a tight cluster. Consistency is the tune. Everything else is a sticker.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Drag Drive Simulator questions.

What do short gear ratios do in DDS?

They improve acceleration and lower the speed cap in that gear. Use them in low gears for launch. Lengthen high gears so you still have speed at the stripe.

Where should I test a tune?

Free-roam straight first, then Sentul Time Trial, then Pettarani for top-end. That order is in this guide and in drag racing.

Do DRL color and flash rate make the bike faster?

No. V1.1.8 lighting mods are visual. L still toggles headlights. Put ratio work before DRL shopping.

Is Suspension Pro required?

No. It is 29 Robux for extra suspension range. Kickstand height now follows suspension. Ratios still win races. See gamepasses.

Should I copy a creator’s exact gear numbers?

Use them as a start, then run the three-pass test on your bike. Strip length and launch RPM differ. Blind copy-paste is how you bounce the limiter.

When do I stop tuning and go race?

When three Sentul Time Trials cluster together without slider panic. Then play Tournament or farm RP using how to earn RP.
